Kawasaki’s Near-Future Mobility Solutions, CORLEO and ALICE SYSTEM, Added to the Permanent Exhibition in Kobe

Publish Date2026.06.05

Located within Kobe’s Meriken Park, Kawasaki Good Times World is the corporate museum of the Kawasaki Heavy Industries Group, which celebrates the 130th anniversary of its founding in 2026. With a real Series 0 Shinkansen, a helicopter, and various motorcycles on display, the museum attracts visitors with its concept of “See it, feel it, experience it.” Starting this spring, two near-future mobility solutions that drew global attention at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan (Expo 2025) were added to the permanent display. For this article, Mr. Tomoyuki Hayashi, who is involved in the planning and operation of the museum, shares the vision behind the new exhibits and their key features.

20th-anniversary revamp shares the inspiration of Expo 2025 to Kobe

Kawasaki Good Times World marks its 20th anniversary this year as it undergoes a large-scale revamp. The first major change is the installation of two near-future mobility models, which were originally showcased at Expo 2025 under the theme “Impulse to Move”—CORLEO, a hydrogen-powered multi-legged robotic vehicle, and the ALICE SYSTEM, a next-generation public transportation system that eliminates the need for passengers to transfer between modes, enabling seamless travel across land, sea, and air. The relocated models were added to the permanent exhibition on March 27, 2026.

CORLEO is a four-legged mobility vehicle designed for rocky terrain and unpaved roads. Inspired by the powerful skeletal structure of a lion and the company’s signature design process for motorcycles, CORLEO can be intuitively operated by shifting the rider’s body weight, similar to horseback riding. Meanwhile, ALICE SYSTEM, a transportation system in which a four-passenger cabin is automatically docked into a train, ship, or aircraft, enables stress-free transfers. The development of both mobility models began with a simple sense of curiosity and excitement—imagining what ideal future mobility could look like. Exhibition panels also convey the creative process behind these innovations. We hope visitors can share the fun.

Highlights of the CORLEO and ALICE SYSTEM exhibits

When visitors see CORLEO, they often say it’s “bigger than I thought.” The life-size model, even larger than a 750cc motorcycle, is indeed impressive. Up close, you will notice it has “hooves” despite its lion shape. Goats that freely skip around the Alps inspired us to adopt this design so as to enhance stability on rocky surfaces. Using robotics to achieve a design combination that doesn’t exist in real animals is a unique approach characteristic of Kawasaki.

The stirrup-like structures are also innovative. Developed through test rides conducted with the cooperation of students from Kobe University’s equestrian club, they detect the rider’s position and automatically adjust. With the development of CORLEO already underway, it won’t be long before we can offer you the opportunity to try it out.

The exhibited ALICE SYSTEM is a life-size model that captures the moment its cabin docks with a train car. In Kawasaki Good Times World, we have installed an observation deck that gives visitors a tangible sense of future mobility by allowing them to sit in the vehicle. The cabin seats were designed to uncompromising specifications, and the body features gradient paint, which is rare on trains. A full-scale Series 0 Shinkansen is also on display nearby, allowing visitors to enjoy the stark contrast between the past and the future.

Excitement is what drives solutions to social problems

Both CORLEO and the ALICE SYSTEM were developed through collaborative idea generation and extensive discussion to turn ideals into tangible forms. My hope is that children realize through the exhibits that the excitement of creation is what drives solutions to social problems.

Before Expo 2025, we hosted workshops on envisioning the future of mobility at several elementary and junior high schools. During the program, participants expressed a desire to “making exploration safe and convenient” and “creating useful things for others,” reflecting their innate desire to help others. The ideas inspired by the children’s creative excitement are also showcased at Kawasaki Good Times World. I hope visitors will see how imaginative and considerate children are.

Hands-on experience etches a lasting memory

Kawasaki Good Times World has consistently valued hands-on experiences by providing the “real” things. As part of our permanent exhibition, we therefore offer visitors the opportunity to enter the driver’s cab of a Series 0 Shinkansen and the cockpit of a helicopter, both of which are usually off-limits, and to “operate” the control levers or to sit in the seats. Only hands-on experience allows you to gain a tangible sense of the texture, weight, and scale of an object. I believe it is such practical experience that etches a lasting tangible memory of the thrill of creating things, which is passed down through generations.

Visitors’ input on what they want and the future they envision fuels our aspiration to create. We hope this facility continues to offer new discoveries on every visit and inspires people to share them with others.

We warmly welcome visitors of all ages to Kawasaki Good Times World in Kobe.
